From Military Might to Modern Marvel: Unveiling South Beach Singapore

Where military history meets modern marvel — and ends with a mocktail.

For over a century, the grounds at Beach Road belonged to soldiers. Today they hold a Michelin-starred hotel, a 280-metre canopy, and one of Singapore’s most ambitious feats of architectural preservation. This 2-hour guided walk traces how one became the other.

You’ll march through the former Beach Road Camp, where the Singapore Volunteer Corps once drilled, and step inside the restored Drill Hall — now a ballroom, and the best-preserved building on the site. Along the way, the NCO Club, the art installations tucked into every corner, and the stories of the people who shaped this ground.

Then you go up. Level 11 of South Beach Tower is closed to the public, but not to you. From the Sky Garden you’ll take in a view most Singaporeans never see, while your guide explains the sustainability engineering that keeps this precinct cool without air-conditioning.

The walk ends at JW Marriott with a locally inspired mocktail, crafted for this tour. A fitting toast to a place that refused to be torn down.
