Many people including locals have always associated Mt Faber, the highest peak along the Southern Ridges with the Cable Car station, not knowing there is more to discover in this area including its steep history stretching back more than 200 years ago. The rainforest, forming part of the nature reserves in Singapore, also provides many great opportunities to appreciate the rich biodiversity found in the area.
From the trailhead, a quick climb via Marang Trail to the highest point along the Southern Ridges yields panoramic views of Singapore’s beautiful harbour and the southern islands on one side and on another side – Central Business District’s awe-inspiring skyscrapers.
Next, we continue hiking along the Southern Ridges to discover interesting native flora (meet the ‘strangler fig’ tree and the plant whose seeds are used in the famous ‘Po Chai’ pills to treat diarrhoea in traditional Chinese medicine) and built heritage (admire a century-old mansion with an eclectic architectural style) and enjoy refreshing views atop the highest pedestrian bridge and one of the most beautiful bridges in Singapore – Henderson Waves.
We will also visit one of the last remaining mangrove wetlands in the south, nestled in one of Singapore’s four nature reserves – Labrador Nature Reserve. Amidst the myriad coastal flora and fauna, climb another ‘forgotten’ hill and immediately be immersed in the history of a 140+ year-old military fort, built to protect Singapore Harbour.
Explore a different side of the urban Singapore via our nature-theme Singapore walking tour!
Notes: Tour is recommended for 16 years old and above with moderate fitness | Tour will only commence with a minimum of 4 participants. For dates outside of the fixed schedule, you can email bookings@tribe-tours.com to enquire.
