ZERO TO HERO FOOD SUSTAINABILITY TOUR

ITINERARY

Join us in this experiential tour to transform ugly food into compost!

Achieving food sustainability for the planet is not only up to the agricultural industry or a government’s strategies, our individual actions play a major role in ensuring food security and a healthy planet. With Singapore importing more than 90 percent of our food, what is the country doing in ensuring and securing our food supply? What role can you play to strengthen our food supply resilience?

Our Zero to Hero Food Sustainability Tour will bring you into the heartlands to explore the sustainability efforts within our wet markets and provide a unique experience to forage for vegetable waste and ugly food.

The wet markets in Singapore go back to the days where travelling hawkers were a common sight in Singapore during the 19th century to mid-20th century, peddling food, drinks, vegetables, poultry and sundries. Wet markets promise charm and authenticity that supermarkets and online grocers cannot replicate.

Start off your journey and deep dive into the origins and local uses of our vegetables and fresh produce and help to gather the unsold ones for our collection. Learned how much food is produced locally, and what measures are being taken to reduce wastage and to ensure food sustainability in Singapore.

Next, we go behind the scenes to a research institute where we learn from the volunteers on how they are helping to reduce food waste. Roll up your sleeves and do your part in converting the unwanted ugly produce into compost.
